5 Thrift Store Shopping Tips

Shopping at a thrift store or in short “thrifting” is not for everybody. Some people don’t even wanna hear the word “thrift store”. Some people loves it. I’m one of those people who love thrift stores. Every time I shops at a thrift store I always get out with a very big smile, and always proud with the stuff I found. Just don’t be afraid to dig and get your hands dusty/dirty.

Below, I’m gonna share with you my shopping tips before I go to any thrift store.

Don’t just go to a thrift store or even in any other store without a plan. Think about what you want to look for. Be specific and write it down. I have to write down stuff all the time otherwise I forget. Yes, I’m that forgetful (sounds awful right?). One of my biggest for writing down what I want is to have a guide also. I love vintage stuff. Honestly, they’re like candies to me. But having a guide or note I can actually focus and prioritize what’s on my list.

To those who hasn’t been to a thrift store, get ready. Sometimes the dust can be overwhelming. Some thrift stores ain’t that dusty, but some are, just saying. If you’re not willing to get your hands dusty or dirty, then you should stick to shopping at the mall or a boutique.

Thrift store can be overwhelming. I spend an hour or two every time I’m thrifting. So, before you even go thrifting, make sure that you have plenty of time to spare for it. No need to rush, there’s no fun thrifting if you’re rushing. You might miss a diamond somewhere because you’re rushing and don’t wanna look around, hahaha. There’s plenty of great stuff or great deals at any thrift store that’s worth checking out. Time, time, time….because baby, all you need is time.

Once you found the stuff from your list don’t get too excited. One thing you should do first before you even check out is to check your items. Make sure there’s no holes, ripped stitches, or stains. Ripped stitches ain’t that bad if you can sew then great! I can’t stand stains so I always check my picks not just once just to be sure.

Before leaving the store, always thank the person at the register with the great deals you have found. Everyone loves to hear that. It lighten up someone’s day.

Dining At Burger King + Review

There are plenty of fast food chains in our area, and they are pretty much walking distance. One of them is Burger King. Burger King is one of my family’s go to fast food chain. My boys love to dine there. It’s like every word that comes out from their mouth is chicken strips and cheeseburger. I can’t quite understand why kids these days love fast foods. As a mom of two boys who are so picky when it comes to food, sometimes I’m so grateful that this place is so close to my place. My eldest son loves chicken strips and my youngest one loves cheeseburgers.

I don’t know how other Burger King branch cook their chicken strips, but sometimes I get disappointed the one located at cypress street. Most of the time the chicken strips are not even golden brown looking. It’s way more than golden brown ( over fried ). You know how that feels like when you’re eating it, almost feels like a rubber. Luckily, last Sunday when we were there, the chicken strips look way better. It wasn’t over fried at all. I was happy to see that.

Another thing is, this branch probably should have more than three people every shift. The staffs were very nice and friendly, but the fact that the line was getting longer and customers who ordered were still waiting for the food didn’t really look good. Really don’t wanna see customers get disappointed.
I really hope to see more of their staffs next time. Three people are not enough!

Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright

Hi everybody! How are you all doing today? Today, I’m going to share my personal struggle about anxiety. But first of all, let me share a little about my life back in the Philippines. Back then, I would say I was a happy young lady. I love to laugh; love to sing; love to dance, and love to go socialize with friends. It’s not that I’m not happy now. It’s just that it’s a different level of happiness.

Back then all I think is how to get the house chores done quick so I could do something for myself, or go see my friends and play volleyball ( gosh, I love volleyball ). However, when I got married and have children everything changed. Being in a foreign country with no one else from your family living close to you is very hard. I get homesick a lot. Every single day I have to think about my children’s future. Would you believe if I will tell you that I barely treat myself for seven years with something that every woman would do like shopping, hang out with friends, a road trip with friends, or even go to a nail salon and have manicure and pedicure? The only reason why I was okay with all of those things I mentioned was that I’m a mom now and my little boys need my attention and my time. Especially having children who were both born prematurely. My eldest son was 25 and a half weeks only when I had him. Weighed 1lb-7oz. Height: 1 foot long ( 12 inches ). Had heart surgery when he was only 9 days old. Then after months, he also had eye surgery. Overall, he spent close to five months and had been in different hospitals.

With my youngest son, I almost lost him when I was three months pregnant. I was working part-time at a shoe store; standing all day long; lifting boxes and etc. One day, I got sick, went to the clinic to see my doctor only to discover that I was three months pregnant and at that very moment I was going to lose my baby anytime. I was rushed to the hospital and put on complete bed rest. Fast forward, I made it to my seven months of pregnancy with all those medicines they gave me and the steroid shots they gave me on my buttock every week to hold the baby a little longer.

My second child, Phillip. Weighed a little over 3lbs.
After he had a blood transfusion. He was over a month old in this photo.
This is Phillip now. He’s a little cranky now and then, but he is sweet.

Having them are the greatest feeling in the world. Before I felt alone, but I don’t feel it now, thank God! Though I still worry things, I think that’s normal as a parent. I don’t even worry about myself and my health. I’m worried about my children’s future. Praying for their bright future. I wanna see their success. I wanna see them have their own families. So many things I worry every day. I’m sure all parents can relate to this. Despite all the worries I have, at the end of the day, I tell myself “everything is going to be alright”. There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.

If you are in a situation like me, believe that everything is going to be alright. Have faith in God!

Custom Backpacks + Review

I love carrying a backpack around especially if the quality is great and it has a really cool design on it. As an artist myself, I like it to be unique and artsy. I bought backpacks for my boys for their school use last August of last year, and five months later their backpacks are still in very good shapes. They’re both customized design backpacks. The design itself is printed on the backpack materials. The quality of the material is very good. The Stitching is great! How about the print? Ohhhhh yeah, the print is exquisite!

I got mine and both of my boys’ backpacks online. This company called ArtsAdd is located overseas. I don’t have any problem with that though, as long as I’ll receive what I order I don’t have any issue with that at all. I received my order 15-17 business days after being shipped. That’s not bad at all! If you’re a customer want to buy something, they have wide products range with great designs you can choose on their website. Now, if you are an artist and wants to sell, you can register and have your own free online store. Royalty rates range from 1% – 99%. You set your own margins and determine how much you will earn from each sale. You choose any royalty rate from 1% up to 99% and they’ll show you the retail price and the exact royalty you’ll earn in your account. Check it out!

The design names of the fabric backpacks that my boys are wearing above are OCEAN BLUE and OCEAN DEEP. While the one I am wearing is called INFECTED. I love them! As an artist wearing an artistic design backpack, oh it makes me feel artsier, hahaha.
