Have you ever heard of a kids clothing store called Once Upon A Child? We found out about this store not too long ago, and luckily it’s only 15 minutes drive from our place. Personally, I love the place. We found great stuff for the boys for the Winter season. It doesn’t get too cold here in Louisiana, so shopping for long sleeve shirts ahead of time is a great idea.
Shopping at a thrift store or in short “thrifting” is not for everybody. Some people don’t even wanna hear the word “thrift store”. Some people loves it. I’m one of those people who love thrift stores. Every time I shops at a thrift store I always get out with a very big smile, and always proud with the stuff I found. Just don’t be afraid to dig and get your hands dusty/dirty.
Below, I’m gonna share with you my shopping tips before I go to any thrift store.
START WITH A PLAN
Don’t just go to a thrift store or even in any other store without a plan. Think about what you want to look for. Be specific and write it down. I have to write down stuff all the time otherwise I forget. Yes, I’m that forgetful (sounds awful right?). One of my biggest for writing down what I want is to have a guide also. I love vintage stuff. Honestly, they’re like candies to me. But having a guide or note I can actually focus and prioritize what’s on my list.
BE READY TO GET YOUR HANDS DUSTY/DIRTY
To those who hasn’t been to a thrift store, get ready. Sometimes the dust can be overwhelming. Some thrift stores ain’t that dusty, but some are, just saying. If you’re not willing to get your hands dusty or dirty, then you should stick to shopping at the mall or a boutique.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Thrift store can be overwhelming. I spend an hour or two every time I’m thrifting. So, before you even go thrifting, make sure that you have plenty of time to spare for it. No need to rush, there’s no fun thrifting if you’re rushing. You might miss a diamond somewhere because you’re rushing and don’t wanna look around, hahaha. There’s plenty of great stuff or great deals at any thrift store that’s worth checking out. Time, time, time….because baby, all you need is time.
CHECK YOUR PICKS
Once you found the stuff from your list don’t get too excited. One thing you should do first before you even check out is to check your items. Make sure there’s no holes, ripped stitches, or stains. Ripped stitches ain’t that bad if you can sew then great! I can’t stand stains so I always check my picks not just once just to be sure.
ALWAYS THANK THE PERSON AT THE REGISTER WHEN CHECKING OUT
Before leaving the store, always thank the person at the register with the great deals you have found. Everyone loves to hear that. It lighten up someone’s day.
My Thrift Store Finds This Week
Now, if you’re planning to go thrifting take your time and have fun!
Good morning ya’ll. What are you up to today? To all who are working today I hope you will have a successfull and wonderful day at work. As of today, my boys are still out of school. They will be back on the 7th of January which is this coming Monday. Right now, we can’t really do much outdoors because of the rain. It has been raining since last Tuesday. It’s quite nasty outside.
Today, we’re just gonna be on our pajamas all day. Read books. Helping my eldest son study for his upcoming spelling bee contest on January 16th. Well, you know that doesn’t come really easy. I know other moms know that there will be tantrums, stubbornness and the selective hearing moment when teaching your kid. In moment like this, all I need is PATIENCE….PATIENCE…PATIENCE.
However, when that part is done, it will be time to light some candles and just relax. Who doesn’t want to relax? I need it so bad! I have been working…working…working. So many times I feel so guilty of having limited time with my little ones. Last month, I resigned my job not because I don’t wanna work anymore. I had sever back pain throughout those years while working that nobody would understand the pain I had and the struggle of striving to look painless, to smile, to walk like I didn’t feel any pain. It’s a challenge doing that on a daily basis. Right now, going to the chiropractor helps me feeling better. I’m almost there. I’m grateful! For a long time, I don’t even know how it feels like when you don’t have severe pain.
Anyway, I probably blah..blah..blah..too much. Before I’ll end up today’s blog, I wanna share something with you quick. One thing I really love to do is going to a thrift store. Who else like to go to a thrift store? Can’t be just me, lol. The stuff I have in these images below are from a thrift store. The candle holders were $1.50. The books were $0.25 each. They’re not just books for decorations or photography props, but for me I love these books. Max Lucado is my favorite author. I also love reading inspirational books. The transparent glass is from Dollar Tree. The dog is not from the thrift store or dollar tree hahaha just kidding. That’s our sweet dog Daisy. She is so adorable!
I hope that you will have a beautiful day and until next time!
